Breakfast for Dinner vs. Fast Food

Hey, guys!

Yesterday I traveled up to good old Northeastern PA to visit Mom. Two weeks ago she took a spill, broke her wrist (and possibly a rib) and gave herself quite the goose egg!

Here she is with Cowboy. He’s been keeping her company while my niece is at camp.

Mom and Cowboy

We spent yesterday catching up and cleaning. Today we hit the farmers market and shopped. It was great to have some mother-daughter time to just hang out.  I’m going to go back up next week and take the boys.  It’s just about a 3 and a half hour drive. Short enough to easily make it up there but just long enough make it a trek that requires some planning.

Today I got home in time to pick up the kids at camp so The Husband could head to his tennis match. It was dinner time after a long day and I was hungry — perfect opportunity to hit the drive-thru and call it a day.

Did I really want drive-thru food?

No. I mean, I’m not anti fast-food but I do try to limit it.

Did I want the kids to eat drive-thru food?

Not really. Especially considering they just had fast-food with Dad yesterday while I was away.

What’s a tired mom to do?

This is when #wycwyc pops into my head. I know it’s cheesy and you probably don’t believe me but it’s true!

I looked at the kids and said…

“What about breakfast for dinner?”

They were sold. Actually, they were excited. (Probably because I didn’t put the drive-thru option in their head first. It was only in mine.) We drove home, made scrambled eggs, bacon and my Banana Almond Oat Pancakes.

It was a great, fast, easy meal and both boys ate without one annoying whine or complaint. Afterwards we caught up while making some fun fusions.

It’s nights like these that keep me motivated and moving forward.

In other news:

  • I posted a new soup idea on GreenLiteBites — Butternut Ginger Soup
  • I’m contemplating a potential blog shift. Something is in the works. I’ll keep you posted.
  • I turn 40 this weekend! Lots of fun stuff planned — movie with the kids, drinking with friends, a horror movie matinee (one of my favorite things ever!) and a fancy, schmancy dinner with The Husband. I’m excited and totally distracting myself from the fact I’m about to enter a new decade.
